Difference between jailbreaking and unlocking

The main difference between jailbreaking and unlocking is that jailbreaking helps to install different applications, while unlocking allows you to choose the network carrier of your own choice.

Apple allows only the approved applications offered through the application store. But they provide limited applications. There are so many applications that user’s want, but these applications are not available at the application store as Apple has rejected them for some reasons(Apple competing with its own applications, violating terms of service etc).

Jailbreaking- It includes several tools including jailbreakMe.com- It allows you to use those applications that are restricted by Apple. Like, you can download themes, wallpapers, movies etc on your iPhone. With iPhone jailbreaking you can enjoy all applications that you like. Unlocking- Apple controls the iPhone, by providing the limited network carrier service. Iphone supports AT&T network carrier and due to this reason iPhone user's cannot use the other network services. To overcome this problem people started to unlock their iPhone.

Unlock iPhone allows you to insert different SIM cards on your iPhone. It means that you can use your iPhone with different SIM cards whether you are in India or outside India. But unlock iPhone does not provide all features, as there is one feature- Visual Voicemail that can be used only on AT&T.

Still, unlocking iPhone provides many choices like- You don't have to pay much for getting the extra applications and moreover it provides better coverage too.

Unlocking and jailbreaking are not same but they both provide better facilities to their user's.
